Should we outsource our Search Engine Marketing efforts? This is a question many companies are pondering these days. We are going to examine the advantages and disadvantages of each approach and tell you where we can help with both so you can create an effective SEO strategy.
In an ideal world we would have no use for SEO. Google would effortlessly find the best pages and rank these at the top of the search engines. Of course, the best pages are our pages so they would effortlessly float to the top of the search engine rankings.
An In House SEO is a great solution for companies that:
Can find a SEO that is capable of doing the work and is willing to work in that environment. This person would be knowledgeable in areas such as effective On Site SEO, Link Building, Blogging, Press Releases, Social Media Optimisation and more. Furthermore they would understand the companies products and services and are capable of fusing the knowledge of the two to create great results. Unfortunately, these people are rare so if you find one keep them!
Do Not Require Massive SEO work to improve their online profile. This is essentially because they are not in a competitive area so with basic understanding of SEO concepts they are able to generate strong search engine positions.
Can Train a SEO to take on this job. Again, this depends on the availability of an in house search consultant to actually train them or outsourcing the training to a SEO agency. SEOTech offers training courses in SEO aimed at both beginners and inhouse customised courses aimed at more advanced users.
Outsourcing SEO in one form or another is becoming an increasingly popular way of maintaining a companies search profile. This is especially popular in companies that do not have the time and resources to train their own staff and require outside assitance. Also, companies in competitive areas or that prefer to focus on their core skills and allow an outside company to deal with SEO find us maintaining their SEO a viable option. Some important things to consider when thinking about a SEO company are:
Does the Company listen to and Understand your needs. SEO is not a one size fits all solution. Some companies will require different levels of assistance in different areas. Do you get the impression your SEO company is listening to what you say, getting a grasp of your business processes and devising a strategy based on your specific needs?
Does the Company have a track record of success? SEO is too important an area for most companies to outsource it to people that do not have the required track record of success. After all, saving money on a consultant but receiving a reduced search engine position (or worse, actually get banned and lose al of your traffic) is not going to cost you big money in the long run.
Does the Company engage in any Black Hat Techniques? Black Hat SEO is the equivilant of playing Russian Roulette with your website. One day you may be top of the search engines and the next day you may be banned. SEOTech is aware of companies both in Denmark and internationally that engage in practices such as creating link farms, using cloaked pages to present one page to users and another to the search engines and other covert Black Hat tactics. We think this is bad practice for 99% of companies. We offer solutions that are compliant with the search engines guidelines and will be honest and transparent in our dealings with you.
Does the Company engage in any strange Pricing Strategies? For example, we have seen companies that charge per keyword listed in the search engines. If a keyword is the top 10 then they get paid for that keyword. This is not necessarily a bad way of paying for SEO, it just can cause the following problems:
1- The company may choose keywords that are not competitive and/or may not have much traffic. This can be a huge problem, because you end up paying a monthly fee for something that is not helping your business at an optimum rate.
2- The companies goals are not to develop longevitiy in the search engines, they are trying to secure quick results. Whilst this is possible, some companies will resort to black hat tactics in order to achieve this which may not be in the websites overall interests.
3- The company is not working to a time scheldule. You may be being seriously overcharged for the work that is actually being done and you would have no idea. This is why SEOTech believes in a punch card system, where every hour spent working on your account is accounted for and the results from this work are transparent for everyone to see.
The SEOTech way
We believe in charging for the work that is actually done. This means that you pay for the exact work you receive done, nothing more or nothing less. We are willing to consider other methods of payment, but recommend this system as it is clearest and easiest for all concerned.
